What does the course consist of?
A programme of study therefore needs to be based around a minimum of 68 taught hours (Over 10 days) and approximately 40 hours of private study for an overall total of 108 Hours.
The NEBOSH national general certificate course consists of 2 units:
1. Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety (5 days duration)
- Why we should manage workplace health and safety
- How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
- Managing risk understanding people and processes
- Health and safety monitoring and measuring
2. Unit NG2: Risk Assessment (5 days duration)
- Physical and psychological health

Delegates will be expected to complete course assignments and conduct private study whilst on the programme.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites to attend this course. However, it is advantageous that candidates wishing to obtain the NEBOSH General Certificate have a general understanding of Health and Safety prior to attending the course.
English Speaking Requirements?
A suitable standard of English is required to ensure candidates fully understand the course content and the syllabus.
The standard of English required by candidates studying the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. It is important to stress that the onus is on accredited course providers to determine their candidates’ standards of proficiency in English.
It is recommended that candidates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests in order to be accepted onto a National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety programme.

How are the units assessed?
Paper NG1 Management of Health and Safety Assessment is by an open book written examination comprising of one paper which is completed out online
NG2 Health and Safety is a practical application comprising of a risk assessment project carried out in the workplace. Delegates will also have a 15 minute closing interview approx. 1- 2 weeks after the exam, dates/times to be arranged individually. The interview questions are designed to check you have the underpinning knowledge and understanding behind your answers in the examinations.
Achieving the overall qualification
Candidates will need to pass all 2 units within a 5 year period
Certification NEBOSH will award certification upon successful completion of the open book exam and practical assessment.

NEBOSH Classoom Course Details

When you arrive:
1) Look for the Bank of Scotland.
2) The first door to the right of the Bank of Scotland entrance will have a sign above it saying “Water Row Dental Practice”. There is a smaller sign saying “Old Bank Loft”
3) Press the button for The Old Bank Loft.

What to bring:
- Warm clothes, hat, gloves etc. Due to Covid-19 we will need to keep the premises well ventilated.
- Note pad and pens
- Lunch or money to buy lunch. Location is perfect if you are eating out. You can see Greggs and Subway if you look out the premises window.
- We request that you wear a face covering when walking around the premises and when entering and leaving. You do not need to wear a mask when sitting at your seat unless of course you would prefer to wear one.
Transport options:
The venue is located close to Glasgow City Centre and a number of Motorways. You can either drive or take public transport.
Public Transport:
Govan Underground and bus station is directly opposite the premises.
Parking Arrangements:
There is plenty of free parking either outside the premises or the street surrounding the premises. Just make sure you check for yellow lines or parking restriction signage.
